Butler's efforts up in smoke

Gerard Butler

SCOTS heartthrob Gerard Butler has revealed he started smoking again after a night out with Hollywood pal Russell Crowe.

The 300 star confessed that he fell off his smoking bandwagon after spending a night out on the town with the Gladiator star.

Gerard told how it had previously taken him 40 attempts to stop smoking, including over 20 hypnotherapy sessions.

However the 41-year-old Paisley-born star, who is set to star in action flick Machine Gun Preacher, fell off the smoking wagon after a night out during the summer.

And he revealed how he battled to chuck the weed again after his encounter with Crowe and his friends.   He said: "I was smoking then I stopped for four years.

"Then about three months ago, don't try this at home, don't try this anywhere, I was just out with some friends, Russell Crowe was one of them.

"There was 12 of them and 11 of them were smoking.

"I suddenly was like 'you know what maybe it will be alright this time'.

"And that was it, I was off."
