Amazing Grace

Jim Kerr's secret passion for singer

SCOTS rocker Jim Kerr has revealed he has a secret crush on former Bond girl Grace Jones.

The Simple Minds frontman has told how watching Jones perform her new single on television made him feel like a lovesick schoolboy.

Kerr, 49, is a massive fan of the actress and singer and says that his favourite record of the year is Jones' latest album 'Hurricane'.

But it is the 60-year-old's looks and leggy figure that has set Kerr's pulse racing.

The Glasgow-born singer has said her recent performance on TV's Later with Jools Holland was so impressive that she made the following act Razorlight look 'ultra limp'.

He said: "Grace has always been a big favourite of Simple Minds and I recall countless road trips spent criss crossing entire countries with her music on in the background.

"On the new album there is a song called William's Blood, and she performed it last week on UK television.

"To say I was reduced to being a bit of a schoolboy while watching Miss Jones is no understatement, but then again at least I did not have to follow her performance with my own, as did Razorlight who featured on the same programme.

"I am afraid they wilted in her shadow and were shown unfortunately in comparison to be ultra limp.

"Not the state I would use to describe the state I was in after watching Grace blow everyone else off stage."

Jones has released numerous albums since 1973, as well as appearing films such as A View to a Kill with Roger Moore.

On a BBC chatshow in 1981, Jamaican-born Jones infamously attacked presenter Russell Harty after he offended her by turning away to talk to another guest.

Kerr added: "And yes I am aware that I sound like a fawning fan of Miss Jones etc.

"But I am that after all. And do I fancy her also?

"Oh yes, I do. Grace is definitely my kind of girl, or least she might be if I was about two feet taller and less prone to dreaming!

"Maybe it is because of her personality and her original modelling background, plus the absolute outlandish costumes.

"Grace Jones lives in the shadow of no one and Grace makes the city skylights flicker to her rhythm only!

"I pray for you everyday Grace."

Celtic fan Kerr has recently finished recording his latest studio album in Wales with Simple Minds co-founder Charlie Burchill.

He splits his time between touring and living with his Japanese girlfriend in their home in Sicily.
