Lulu: I'll bare all

Lulu

SINGING legend Lulu has insisted turning 60 won't stop her revealing her curves in a bikini this summer.

The Glasgow-born star is admired for her youthful looks despite almost being old enough to collect her bus pass.

She has her own line in skin care treatments and has admitted she looked after her skin because she did not think she was pretty enough to last in the music industry.

Once married to Bee Gee Maurice Gibb, twice-divorced Lulu said regular sessions at the gym helped keep her trim.

But last night she revealed she still feels her backside could do with some extra work.

She said: "I'm going to be 60 in November but it won't stop me wearing a bikini this summer.

"I'm lucky in that my body is fairly toned, although I do go to the gym three times a week and do yoga.

"But I'm not perfect and I could do with toning up my bottom, thighs and belly.

"Women in their 50s and 60s aren't going to have very toned bodies unless they work out at the gym for three hours a day.

"I look at Madonna and I hear people say she's trying to hang onto her youth - but she does an amazing job.

"The rest of us should embrace what we have because it's not about being young.

"It's about having the confidence to say 'Hey, this is me.'

"The trick is not to care what other people think when you're walking along the beach.

"After all that's what holidays are all about - relaxing."

Lulu, real name Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie, exploded onto the showbiz scene with a classic cover of the Isley Brothers' hit 'Shout' in 1964.

Success during a glittering career has seen her travel all over the world and seen land an OBE in 2000.

She has also sung with Take That - and scored a massive hit with the single Relight My Fire - despite the band being half her age.

She added: "I can understand women's reservations about baring all on the beach.

"But as I've got older the middle of my body has got thicker.

"It's that middle-aged spread advancing. My friends and I hate it. I suppose I could exercise insanely seven days a week to lose it but I can't be bothered. Life's too short.

"There's a tendency to crash diet as the summer approaches just to look good in a bikini, but that doesn't work whether your 30, 40, 50 o 60.

"When I was young I tried every diet going but none of them worked.

"I've learnt that to lose weight you should change your eating habits and eat three healthy meals a day."
